If you want a simple approach to acting then I would suggest using the W’s method.
The Ws of Acting
Basically it is:
- Who are you talking to?
- What was said before your character answers
- What do you want from that person?
- Why do you want it?
- What will you do to get it?
- What will you do when you get it?
Always use one of your five senses (or more, that you might you use in real life).
With these tools you can do a movie, a television show, even a commercial. I always suggest for any of the above that you always create “the where you are”. So, where is the camera picking you up? What type of environment are you in, what does it look like, smell like, feel like, and is there a taste or a feeling about where you (the character) is.
Before and After- life
Think about what was just said to make you act the way you are acting, after you hear what the other character has said to you, what makes your character respond the way he or she does? What are you feeling, and where are you going to go, after you say what you need to say to the other character.
